Established in 1946, Billie Brown Post 627 American Legion was named after Billie Brown. Billie Brown and his brother served in the 194th Tank Battalion in WWII. They were activated and sent to the Philippines before the Japanese invaded. Billie and his brother, along with many fine young men from the Brainerd lakes area, were part of the infamous 'Bataan Death March'. Billie survived the march but died in Camp O'Donnell. His brother survived and returned home after the end of World War II. |
